Why people keep themselves away from Linux

Posted by c0del1ngu1st on August 27, 2010

Before you start reading, I must tell you I am a big Linux fan. I highly support Linux as a operating system.

Most of you have heard about Linux. Linux is a open source operating system. Whenever you talk to a layman about Linux, his first view point about Linux would be that linux is difficult to understand. They find it difficult to work on Linux as they have been working on windows and have never tried Linux.

According to me Linux is the most powerful operating system and the biggest reason for that it is open source. The reason people find it difficult to use is because they have been working on windows right from starting. Window is more GUI based(or rather it is an GUI based OS). Linux is both GUI and CUI based. There are things in Linux which need to do with CUI interface only. Also Linux is faster than windows.

Most of the users are unaware of power of linux as there is no advertisement. Moreover when you are going to buy a system dealers also suggest you to buy window instead of open source linux as it will earn them extra money. The biggest reason is in schools windows are taught. Whenever somebody talks about Linux, they mostly would talk about recent development they have done. Ordinary man thinks it is for developers. Linux is for doing coding. In this way linux is promoted more of as a development platform than users.

These are some reasons due to which people are scared to shift to Linux, though it is open source. People must be made aware of Linux. I wrote this because I see more window users around me than Linux. I don’t mean to hurt anybody through this article. These are my view points that why people are not ready to shift to Linux.
